| Dr. Matthew A. Johnson |
Dr. Matthew A. Johnson ("Dr. J.") is a licensed clinical
psychologist. He holds degrees from the University of Alaska,
Rutgers University and George Fox University. He has worked with
parents and children in the mental health field since 1982 in
group homes, residential treatment centers, inpatient
psychiatric hospitals, and outpatient settings. Dr. Johnson was
the Clinical Director for Charter North Outpatient Counseling
Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also the President of FAMILY
Rules, Inc. He wrote "Positive Parenting with a Plan (Grades
K-12): FAMILY Rules" and has taught this successful
research-based behavior modification system for families in a
variety of settings across the United States, Canada, and
Europe. Dr. Johnson has lectured extensively on child and
adolescent health issues and improving families. He has trained
over 50,000 professionals. He has been featured on "The Early
Show", CNN, ESPN2, USA Today, and 250+ radio programs. Dr.
Johnson uses his broad professional background, real-life
parenting experience, and his great sense of humor to write an
informative and entertaining book.
Dr. Johnson moved to Alaska in 1980 to attend the University of
Alaska at Anchorage on a full-ride basketball scholarship. He is
a pretty tall guy (6'9") with a sense of humor to match. He
scored his first two collegiate points against North Carolina in
the Great Alaska Shootout on ESPN. Also, he got half of his
picture in Sports Illustrated (his silly teammate was in the way
of the other half). Dr Johnson is married and has four children
- Levi, Hannah, Micah, and Grady. He also has two dogs, Sophie,
and Scout, and one cat, Harley.
Dr. Johnson loves his parents very much! They lived with him for
seven years. His mother passed away and his father moved out to
be with his new found girl friend. Nevertheless, he grew up in
a dysfunctional family and understands how the lack of
organization, structure, accountability, and communication can
lead to marital and family chaos in the home. He has worked with
similar families in various treatment settings and has
established F.A.M.I.L.Y. Rules, Inc. to combat the cancer of
dysfunctional families.
Today, Dr. Johnson speaks in 80 cities per year all over the
USA, Canada, and Europe. He trains psychiatrists, pediatricians,
psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists,
mental health counselors, pastoral counselors, probation
officers, teachers, and parents how to use "Positive Parenting
with a Plan" with their families. He receives a 95% to 100%
approval rating everywhere he speaks via the evaluation forms at
the end of every seminar. |
